“Understanding the molecular tuning of the beginning of life”
Infertility
affects approximately 12% to 15% of couple of reproductive age in
Europe. Despite the rapid development of Assisted Reproductive
Technologies (ART), only 25-27% of embryo transfers result in
successful pregnancy. Understanding why the embryo fails to
implant in the remaining 75% of cases into the mother uterus, is of
primary importance to improve in the future the treatment of
infertility.
EMBIC is the first large-scale project co-funded by the EC
within the FP6 to reinforce European research on female infertility.
Designed to work as a European virtual laboratory, EMBIC concentrates
research potential of more than 200 scientists and clinicians from 19
leading European institutions and 2 private companies in 11 countries
for a better understanding of the background of infertility.
